The most dunkable biscuits revealed - Did your favourite make the cut?
28/05/2026
A massive 83%1 of Brits drink tea monthly, with it being a staple daily treat for many. To celebrate National Biscuit Day on the 29th May, Buzz Bingo took a deeper dive and conducted a study to find out which biscuits are the most durable when dunked in a cup of tea.
The results are in, and shortbread is the most durable, impressively lasting nearly five minutes when dunked into a cup of tea made with semi-skimmed cow's milk. It’s good news for those who drink oat milk, as a shortbread biscuit lasts over 5 minutes and 30 seconds in oat milk tea without breaking.
A fan favourite for many Brits, the chocolate digestive was one of the worst-ranked biscuits in the study, only lasting 39 seconds before disintegrating in a mug of tea with cow’s milk.
The full breakdown of Britain’s favourite biscuits, and then the length they lasted in tea, is as follows:

Across all ten biscuits in the study, using oat milk meant that biscuits lasted an average of 45 seconds longer before breaking, which is around 41% longer overall.
The average length of time biscuits lasted dunked into each type of milk is:
- Average survival in semi-skimmed tea was 1 minute, 50 seconds
- Average survival in oat milk tea was 2 minutes 35 seconds
The most significant change for oat milk came from Chocolate Malted Milks, lasting a massive 161 seconds more when dunked in an oat-milk cup of tea, as opposed to cow’s milk.
Mark Fletcher, Head of Brand at Buzz Bingo, comments: “It’s no secret that Brits love a cup of tea. National Biscuit Day is no exception, and the perfect time to treat yourself to your favourite biscuits. The results of our study show that the nation’s favourite biscuits and classic dunkers are actually not the most durable for dunking! Even jaffa cakes were able to hold together longer than the go-to digestives, custard creams and hobnobs.”
